At Roger Williams Academy (RWA), we use a variety of assessments including the Verbal Behavior Milestone and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) in order to measure and guide individualized instruction needed to address deficits in verbal behavior. We’ll use this assessment in combination with other peer-reviewed tools (i.e., Barriers, Transition, LAP-D3, EFL, etc.) to develop a performance baseline and use it as a foundation to propel us forward.
At RWA, our goal is to improve socially significant behavior using a human-centered approach – EMPATHY! We believe that communication is valid regardless of its overt display. Although some maladaptive forms of communication can be embarrassing, heartbreaking, and even dangerous, it ALL tells a story. Our job as practitioners is to simply listen, learn, translate, and teach.
