FAQs
New to ABA or to Roger Williams Academy? Start with our Parent Guide: what you’ll need, the insurance we accept and the steps to get started. Ready to talk? Call (713) 859-6709 or book an intake meeting.
Who do you serve?
Children with autism in Northwest Houston. We specialize in children with Level 3 autism diagnoses and children who are nonverbal or have speech and language delays.
Do you accept Medicaid?
Yes. We accept Texas Medicaid plans, including Texas Children’s Health Plan, Community Health Choice, Superior Health Plan and United Healthcare, plus most major commercial plans (see Rates & Insurance). Our intake team verifies your child’s ABA benefits for you.
Does my child need an autism diagnosis?
Yes. Insurance, including Texas Medicaid, requires a documented autism diagnosis from a qualified provider’s comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. For Texas Medicaid, the diagnosis generally needs to be within the last three years, and you’ll also need a referral or prescription for ABA from your child’s doctor. Don’t have a diagnosis yet? Call us and we’ll walk you through the next steps.
What documents do I need?
- Your child’s autism diagnosis report
- A referral or prescription for ABA therapy from your child’s doctor
- Your child’s insurance card (front and back)
- A parent or guardian photo ID (front and back)
How do we get started?
- Call (713) 859-6709 or book an intake meeting.
- Complete our intake paperwork and send the documents above.
- We verify your child’s ABA benefits with your insurance.
- One of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) completes an initial assessment.
- Our BCBA writes an individualized treatment plan and submits it to your insurance for approval.
- Services begin once the plan is approved.
How long until my child can start?
Once we have your documents and the initial assessment is complete, insurance approval typically takes anywhere from 48 hours to 15 days, depending on your plan. Clinic openings are limited, so we recommend starting the process as soon as possible.
What services are available right now?
Clinic-based ABA at our Jersey Village / Northwest Crossing clinic is enrolling now, with limited openings. In-home, community-based and school-based ABA are currently waitlist only, and we’re happy to add your family to the waitlist.
Where is the clinic, and what are the hours?
13201 Northwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77040. The clinic is open Monday through Friday during daytime hours, and we build each child’s schedule around their authorized hours.
What is my role as a parent?
You’re part of the team. Parent and caregiver training is built into every plan (Texas Medicaid requires it unless exempted). Consistency matters too: our families keep 90%+ session attendance, and we ask that you cancel at least 24 hours in advance if you can’t make a session.
How long will my child be in ABA therapy?
It depends on your child’s goals and progress, which we measure with data every session. On average, children stay with us 1.5 to 2 years before graduating.
How much does it cost?
For most families with Texas Medicaid, authorized ABA services are covered with little or no out-of-pocket cost. With a commercial plan, your cost depends on your deductible and copays, and we’ll review your benefits with you. For self-pay rates, please contact us.
